What is trustworthy online?

We are living in a digital age. It seems as though wherever we look there is a constant barrage of information coming at us. But how are we supposed to know what to believe and what to disregard?

There are lot of different ways to differentiate between fact and fiction when it comes to media but it all starts with common-sense. Often times with modern media, if something seems too good to be true or too ridiculous to be true then it probably is. It is easy to fall into the trap of believing everything you see on T.V but while there are certain things that have no reason to be fact checked, it is always a good idea to do your own research whenever something seems fishy or untrue.

Doing your own research can be difficult as well. But as you might have guessed, there are remedies for this as well. Making sure the websites or articles that you are using for your research are credible sources is key. A few things to look for are; current dates, links to other credible sources within the text, more than one credible author, and just the overall look of the website. If a website looks clean and is not littered with advertisements and phishing scams, it has a higher chance of being credible.

Even for something as non important as Jay Lenos’ love life there is misinformation out there. The above article is an example of a site that is riddled with ads and click bait and has no credible sources. The below website is clean and concise and has a full history.
